Huddersfield may not be the first destination that springs to mind when you’re craving authentic Italian cuisine, but that’s precisely what we pride ourselves on at Devour at the Dyehouse.
Based in what was once an old wood turning mill, our Holmfirth restaurant offers a true Italian dining experience in West Yorkshire, inspired by the backstreet trattorias that have fed generations of Italian families for centuries.
Atmosphere and service
You’ll experience this in our hospitality as much as our food. Italians are gracious and generous hosts. Strangers soon become friends and friends soon become family.
It’s no different at Devour. Warm greetings await everyone who crosses our threshold. Birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated with gusto. A casual meal for two evolves into an unforgettable evening. Being made to feel special is par for the course when you dine with us.
It’s the Italian way after all.
Our food philosophy
We also take an Italian approach when it comes to our ingredients. Everything we serve is locally sourced from Yorkshire suppliers or directly from Italy and delivered fresh to our doors each day.
The finest seafood fished off the East Coast. Responsibly raised pork and beef from Sykes House Farm. Delicious milk and cream from cows grazed on the hills of Slaithwaite. CAMRA gold-award winning beer from Three Fiends brewhouse. Italian flour for our fresh pizza bases and pasta from our favourite Italian mills.
These are just some of the signature tastes that may grace your plate at Devour – each dish a perfect harmony of Italian and British flavours.
Menu highlights
Creamy Calabrian burrata. Wafer thin slithers of Prosciutto di Parma. Squid ink Spaghetti. Classic pizza Margherita topped with fresh Fiori di Latte. Dining with us is the closest you’ll get to Italy without jumping on a flight.
To guarantee the freshness and provenance of our ingredients, we update our menus according to the seasons, but we always stay true to the time-honoured tradition of offering antipasto (starters or sharing plates), insalate (salads), primi (a pasta course), La Griglia (grilled meats), Contorni (sides), Pizza Napoletana (authentic Neapolitan-style pizza), and Dolce (desserts).
On Wednesday evenings and Friday and Saturday lunchtimes, we offer a two or three course set menu for a fixed price. While on Sundays, we swap our Italian culinary traditions for a British one, with a signature Roast of the Day anchored around local Yorkshire beef and puddings.
More than an Italian restaurant
Despite our reputation as Huddersfield’s best Italian restaurant (an honour for which we are immensely proud) Devour isn’t just a place to eat out well. Social connection, community, and togetherness is just as much a focus for us as sharing our passion for authentic Italian cuisine.
Alongside our eatery, we offer a substantial bar where you can indulge in an Italian cocktail or a locally brewed Yorkshire beer, before or after your meal. Thursdays see this space transform into a vibrant Speak Easy, with live music courtesy of local artists from the likes of Sheffield, Leeds, and the wider Peak District.
We also spread the joy of Italian cooking through our regular pizza and pasta making classes. Limited to 8-12 attendees, these intimate workshops are perfect for beginners looking to master a couple of simple Italian dishes. Making friends is optional, but with a welcome drink and a meal included, we often find that peoples’ guards come down quickly.
Details of all our classes, and events such as wine parings and themed dining nights, can be found on our website.
Our beautiful location
You’ll find us in Holmfirth, a characterful and postcard-pretty town in West Yorkshire’s Holme Valley, just a short drive from Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield and the Peak District. The area is perhaps best known by Brits for being the filming location of the TV show Last of the Summer Wine, which aired in the UK from the 1970s until 2010.
We’re just a hop and a skip from the cobbled streets of our quaint market town, nestled in a slightly rural spot that takes in the winding River Holme and surrounding ancient woodland. It’s a peaceful and naturally blessed location, so you’ll often find our garden tables filled with alfresco diners when the British weather allows.
Alas, that’s a part of Italy we haven’t been able to recreate at Devour, though we always do our best to transport you to the sunshine in spirit. In fact, just this year OpenTable ranked us among the top 100 restaurants for outdoor dining in the United Kingdom.
A gift for someone special
We’ve hosted countless celebrations at Devour and nothing gives us greater pleasure than to share in your special day. Our entire team is committed to offering an exceptional dining experience that honours our Italian heritage, so we always treat it as a privilege when guests choose to celebrate life’s milestones with us.
On our website, you’ll find a selection of gift vouchers that can be redeemed against a variety of Devour experiences. From Father’s Day to Christmas, Afternoon Tea to Pasta Classes, and even Cocktails, our gift vouchers start from as little as £10 and offer a unique way to show someone how much you value them.
