Come on a fantastic foraging experience with James Hill – The Forager Within – that will help give you the knowledge and confidence to start and fast-track your foraging journey. James grew up on a farm in North Yorkshire and has always loved the countryside, wild food, and the natural world at large. His love of foraging started on nature walks with his parents where picking wild food to eat was just a way of life.
What to expect: For the foraging experience you will enjoy a two and a half-hour walk (covering two miles) around some woodland and grassland near Thongsbridge. James will stop regularly to point out and discuss the many edible goodies you will find along the way. Although the main focus will be foraging from the point of view of wild food, he will also occasionally touch upon non-food uses such as medicinal and “bushcraft” uses. Where possible, you’ll be tasting some of the things found during the walk and you will also get to try a couple of pre-prepared samples of wild food that James will bring with him, to whet your appetite ahead of your delicious lunch!
• A brief introduction to James and foraging in general.
• Finding and discussing over 20 species common across the UK that have food, medicinal and/or bushcraft purposes, with a main focus on food!
• How to identify the wild food we come across.
• Information about poisonous species to avoid.
• Foraging laws and some principles to ensure you forage safely and responsibly so that foraging is nothing but fun and enjoyable!
