The mince pies have hit the supermarket shelves. The holly berries are beginning to ripen. It’s official: the countdown to Christmas has begun.
If you’ve never been to West Yorkshire at Christmas time, it’s a beautiful season to visit. Something about the sparkling fairy lights and festive markets, set against the rolling hills and heritage buildings, just makes our county extra inviting.
It’s one of our favourite times of year at Devour, when we look forward to welcoming friends – old and new – into our Holmfirth home. This year promises to be our most magical yet, with a new Christmas food menu and a sprinkling of festive events to help get you into the spirit.
For those of you who can’t wait, here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store at our Holmfirth Italian restaurant for Christmas 2024…
Food glorious food
Just like any Italian, the way to our hearts is through our stomachs, and this season we’re rolling out a Christmas feast that will fill your heart (and stomach) with joy. Pan seared pork wrapped in Parma ham. Mulled wine and poached plum pannacotta. Chicken liver parfait with port and fig chutney. We’ve given the signature flavours of Christmas a festive glow-up, with our chef’s own British Italian twist. Trust us, it’s a gift your tastebuds will thank you for.

DIY Christmas cottages
Ever dreamed of building your own home? At this clay workshop, delivered in partnership with our friends at The Clay Mill, you’ll create your very own miniature home to light up your Christmas display. The perfect size for sitting on a shelf or sideboard, your clay creation will be fired for you and delivered back to Devour in plenty of time for Christmas. Keep it for yourself or gift it to a loved one, the choice is yours. The morning workshop includes a glass of champagne or mulled wine, which may (or may not) get those creative juices flowing, as well as a tasty two-course meal prepared by our chefs.
Christmas market at Holmfirth near Huddersfield
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a Christmas market, so join on us on the 16th of December when we’ll be hosting our very own Holmfirth Christmas market in the grounds of our Italian restaurant. For one day only, Devour will be transformed into a winter wonderland Santa himself would be proud of. There’ll be stalls from independent local businesses, mulled wine, and much more festive merriment to look forward to. We’re keeping the finer details under wraps for now, but save the date in your diary and keep an eye on our Events Page as we’ll be revealing all soon.
Christmas wreath making
Hoping to create the perfect first impression this Christmas? Why not decorate your door with a one-of-a-kind Christmas wreath, made at our Christmas wreath workshops? We’ll have plenty of festive fauna for you to experiment with. Mistletoe. Holly. Clementine wheels. Nutmeg. As you fashion your yuletide masterpiece, enjoy the company of fellow Christmas crafters, coupled with a warming glass of mulled wine and champagne. Well, it is the season to be merry after all. To cap it all off, you’ll also be treated to a two-course lunch from our Italian kitchen. Bellissima.

Enjoy an après ski spritz at our outdoor kitchen
On the 12th of December, we’ll be turning our garden into a ski resort to raise funds for One Big Family, a charity that provides outreach to rough sleepers. Tickets cost just £10 per person, which grants you access to the resort and an Aperol Spritz on arrival. As well as keeping the cocktails flowing, we’ll be firing up our alfresco kitchen for some special après ski dishes, and there’ll be live music to get the party in full swing. All proceeds from the event will go to the charity and we’ll be accepting warm clothing and sleeping bag donations too. Dress wise, ski attire is encouraged but if your skis are in the shop, warm layers will do just fine.
